What a Milestone for Kosovo: 11 Years of Evidence on Acute Myocardial Infarction

I’m proud to share that our study, “Epidemiological 11-Year Dynamics Study of Acute Myocardial Infarction: A Cohort Study in a Country with a Transitional Healthcare System,” has been officially accepted and published as original research in Global Heart (the journal of the World Heart Federation).

This work represents the first comprehensive, nationwide longitudinal analysis of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) in Kosovo, covering an 11-year period. Beyond the numbers, it tells the story of how AMI epidemiology, management, and outcomes have evolved within a transitional healthcare system, which is offering evidence where previously there was little to none.

Why this matters:

  • It provides locally generated, high-quality epidemiological evidence for Kosovo
  • It helps place Kosovo on the global cardiovascular research map
  • It offers data that can directly inform policy, planning, and clinical decision-making

This publication is the result of years of collaboration, persistence, and belief in the value of local data, even when working in settings with limited resources. I’m deeply grateful to my mentors, co-authors, and colleagues who made this possible.

Most importantly, I hope this study serves as a starting point for stronger cardiovascular research and evidence-based public health action in Kosovo. Me and the amazing team are already waiting for more studies to be published…and crafted.

Best of health and with ♥,
Besfort
